Top 5 Dog-Friendly Summer Hikes in Alberta

Top 5 Dog-Friendly Summer Hikes in Alberta

Being a proud dog mom to three incredible pups—Lexie, Leo, and Loki—means my adventures are never solo. With one large dog and two medium-sized companions, planning hikes is essential to ensure both fun and safety for all of us. Over the summer, we’ve discovered some amazing trails in Alberta that my dogs and I absolutely adore. Here are our top five favorites!

  1. Black Prince Circle Trail
This 4.2 km loop trail is an easy hike and a perfect start to our list. The trail offers stunning scenery and leads to a serene lake surrounded by mountain views. My dogs love splashing around, and I enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
  2. Cat Creek Falls
Another easy hike, this one has a slightly narrow path at the beginning, but don’t let that deter you. At the end of the trail, you’re greeted by a splendid waterfall that’s worth the trek. It’s a favorite for all three dogs, especially Leo, who enjoys the cool mist by the falls.
  3. Bourgeau Lake
This hike was definitely more challenging for me, but it’s one of the most rewarding. Along the way, we discovered beautiful spots with waterfalls, and at the end, there’s a breathtaking lake waiting for you. Despite the difficulty, my pack handled it like champs, and we felt accomplished afterward.
  4. Ram Falls
Though this is a smaller hike, it offers an incredible view of the falls at the end. The trail even has picnic tables at the start, perfect for a quick break or snack before heading out. Lexie loves resting here before exploring, while Loki eagerly leads the way to the falls.

These hikes have brought us so much joy and unforgettable memories. Whether it’s an easy loop or a challenging climb, the bond I share with Lexie, Leo, and Loki grows stronger with each adventure. Alberta’s trails have so much to offer, and they’re perfect for any dog-loving hiker looking for breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature and their furry companions.
